Leary the Irish American

Massachusetts born comedian Dennis Leary is an emblem of the sardonic wit of the Irish. [see: Conan O'Brien(who is somehow related to Leary through marriage), Rosie O'Donnell(not as proud)]

With two comedy albums (No Cure For Cancer, Lock 'N Load) that comment on everything from the NRA, vegetarians, and drug use, to the Kennedy's, Elvis, and the Lord of the Dance; Leary demonstrates through television, film, stand up and more... his dark twisted side all the while remaining purely hilarious.

More than an entertainer the man is also a philanthropist. Founder and President of the Leary Firefighters Foundation; which since its creation in 2002, has distributed over $2.5 million to fire departments from Boston to NYC for new equipment, training materials, vehicles, and facilities. Leary has remained active in all of the fundraising, and usually presents large checks and donated equipment personally.

The close relationship he has developed with the FDNY, as well as individual firefighters across the New York/New England area, has resulted in Leary's most recent television show 'Rescue Me' on FX.

After the deaths of 343 firemen in the September 11 Attacks Leary's foundation created the Fund for New York's Braves and have distributed over $2 million to their families, as well as providing funding for necessities such as a new mobile command center, first responder training, and a high-rise simulator for the FDNY's training campus.

Irish Catholics all around the nation should be very proud - I am.
